Whilst in my final year of school I was confident that any career path I took should involve figures, my golf game however just wasn’t up to much and so I decided on a career in accountancy. It was while golfing that I became aware of an opportunity of a trainee accountants post in Wigan. Ignoring the advice of my teachers I accepted the job and started the job on modern apprentice scheme. I successfully completed the Association of Accounting Technician examination in 1998.
In late 1998 I was accepted for a trainee contract at a larger firm so that I could gain more experience and study for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Examinations. I successfully completed these in 2001 when I was working for Ryans Chartered Accountants.
I continued to work at Ryans until 2003 when I decided to pack my bags and go back packing round the world for 12 months. During this period I tried my hand at a variety of short term jobs including picking and packing, washing up, waiting on, working for a bank, filling containers with subway sauces all to fund the travelling necessities such as diving with sharks, sky diving, white water rafting etc.
Upon returning to the UK I had learned that the jobs I had experienced weren’t quite for me and that accountancy wasn’t that bad after all (well compared to packing women’s thermal underwear!). I was offered my old position with Ryans which I instantly accepted.
I was offered partnership in 2005 and became partner in 2006.
I was born in Preston in 1978
I became engaged to Zoe in 2011 and we are proud parents of Kate who was born in February 2012. I have an older sister and I am an uncle to Zara & James.
I currently live in Chorley
